Therapies Offered

My approach to therapy is a humanistic one, I use my training and grounding in the Person-centred approach to deliver therapy tailored to you, because you are unique and therefore your therapy should reflect your needs. To do this I incorporate elements of other humanistic approaches I have received training in, including Bereavement counselling, trauma, Transactional analysis, Compassion focused therapy, Cognitive behavioural therapy, Solution focused therapy and Creative ways of working.

About Me

I graduated from University in 2008 with a Psychology degree and a desire to deliver animal assisted therapy, however, it was not until some time later that I found my way to counselling. For me it was a lightbulb moment, a vocation that I had been searching for, for the first time I felt I was where I needed to be, no longer having to portray a character that I was not, to survive in the corporate world. Finding out who you really are is incredibly empowering and an opportunity that everyone should have.

What to Expect From My First Therapy Session

Enquiry Call

First we will begin with a free enquiry call, this lasts about 15 minutes and gives us both the chance to introduce ourselves, I can learn a bit more about you and what you would like to achieve from therapy.

Decide Whether I'm the Right Fit

During our enquiry call, you can ask me any questions you may have and decide whether I am the right fit for you. The therapeutic relationship is key for counselling and it's important that you feel able to connect with your chosen counsellor.

Arrange an Appointment

Once we agree to work together we will arrange a mutually agreeable time to have our sessions, if there are no available slots appropriate to you, I will offer to add you to my waiting list until that time becomes available.

First Session

Our first session together is a time for you to share what you feel is most relevant to you at that moment, we will start where you feel comfortable beginning.
Counselling sessions, particularly your first session, can be powerful and liberating, clients often feel relief.

After Your Session

Having a plan for how to take care of yourself after your first session will help, for example taking a walk or having a warm drink can ground you and help bring you back into the here and now.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does everyone get the same service?

I believe it is vitally important to be flexible and adapt to each individual: as well as being grounded in Person-centred therapy I am able to integrate interventions and perspectives from CBT and Transactional analysis. I also like to work creatively when appropriate, adapting to my client's needs is the main focus of the therapy I offer.

How did you start your career as a therapist?

After deciding to change careers I did much soul searching which ended in a return to my first passion, psychology. I decided that helping others with their mental health was definitely what I wanted to do, however I wanted to work holistically, away from diagnosis and medication. I therefore trained in a humanistic approach, focusing on the person as a whole rather than a collection of symptoms.

How can you help people build more or a connection with themselves?

I believe it's beneficial to be in touch with your own physical experience as well as your emotional one, unfortunately this is a connection many of us have lost with how busy our lives are. I can offer guided breathwork to help build that connection.

What areas can you help with?

Some of the areas I can help you with include but are not limited to:

  • Grief/Loss
  • Depression/low mood
  • Anxiety and social anxiety
  • Sexual orientation/Gender identity
  • Body image
  • Relationships
  • Work related stress
